Sandra Manfra Marretta, DVM, DACVS, DAVDC

Biography: Dr. Manfra Marretta earned her DVM degree from Cornell University in 1977. She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Charter Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. She is a Professor Emerita in Small Animal Surgery and Dentistry at the University of Illinois.

Course Schedule

Lecture Title: “Recognition and Management of Benign and Malignant Oral Tumors”

The diagnosis and treatment planning for a wide variety of oral and maxillofacial tumors can be challenging. This presentation will help veterinarians accurately determine whether an intraoral or maxillofacial tumor is benign or malignant. The gross, radiographic, cytologic and histologic characteristics of benign versus malignant lesions will be reviewed. Various treatment options for benign and malignant lesions will be discussed. The final portion of this lecture will focus on how to perform a unilateral rostral maxillectomy and a central or segmental maxillectomy which participants in the Specialist-in-Training (Surgery) Laboratory will have an opportunity to select which one of these procedures they will perform during the laboratory.
